Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 adds a brand-new DMZ map, but it isn't accessible from the menus. In this DMZ guide, we'll show you how to find the entrance to X01 on Hajin, and we'll provide some tips to help you survive this new extraction experience in Modern Warfare 4.

What is the X01 map in MW4 DMZ mode? X01 building

X01 is a smaller DMZ map set within a weapons facility near the northern border of North Korea. This map is designed for close-quarters engagements, which is similar to the Building 21 map from the DMZ beta in 2022.

X01 features exclusive DMZ gear and resources, and it might even house a secret Easter egg quest, as well. This is Modern Warfare 4's most dangerous DMZ experience yet, so we'll give you all our best tips for surviving.

How to access the hidden X01 map X01 is located in the northwest tip of Hajin, as marked with a yellow ping.

While this is a separate map for DMZ, the elevator entrance is hidden within the main Hajin map. There are different ways to travel to the entrance of X01, but the quickest way to reach this northwestern point of the map is to select the Iron Citadel story mission when you infil into DMZ, as this will guarantee you a spawn close to the hidden elevator. You don't even need to complete this story mission. Just head straight to the X01 entrance as marked in the image above, which is the northwestern tip of Hajin.

Obviously, you can access the area by loading into a free roam match or by choosing Dynamic Ops, but you'll likely want to grab a vehicle straight away. This is going to be a popular area, so you want to get there before everyone else can meet you at the entrance.

This area is a large building with a gated entrance on the right-hand side. Interact with a button on the wall to open the gate, and then head inside the elevator on the right. If you're in a squad, all players must select the option to ready up and enter this new location.

X01 tac-map

Once you enter X01, this becomes a separate map with its own match timer. The X01 map will become available on your tac-map, and you'll also get brand-new pages of DMZ Orders to complete that are specific to the area.

No matter how much time is left in your match on Hajin, once you load into X01, you'll get a 20-minute match timer before the radiation starts to spread. There will be Exfil markers located on your map, and these are additional elevators inside the facility. Once the gas reaches these Exfil elevators, they will shut down. The gas seeps up from the floor, so it's best to move to the top levels of the building and search for an Exfil there. Just like Hajin, there will also be a final exfil marked on the map once the others are lost to the gas.

Gear up before going to X01 Inside the X01 building

X01 features close-quarters engagements with AI enemies, and the odds of PvP is much higher here as well. You'll want to make sure you're geared up to survive.

Suggested loadout items:

  • At least one decent loadout weapon. Shotguns, SMGs, and LMGs are great for fighting in this close-quarters space
  • A two-plate armor vest or better
  • Healing items (med kits, painkillers, self-revives)
  • Gas masks and radiation blockers
  • Night-vision goggles
