The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is firmly in control of more than 20 states and is well-positioned for victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in Abuja after a meeting with the President at the State House, Yari said Tinubu’s re-election campaign organisation will be formally inaugurated on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, with the official flag-off scheduled for Kaduna on October 24.

A nationwide tour of states has already been approved by the President.“The President asked for me to come and brief him on where we are, and to discuss the timetable for the state visits,” Yari stated.

“By God’s grace, his team, I, and Mr President himself, we have agreed on how it’s going to be done.”

He added that after Kaduna, the campaign would proceed to Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State, with the full itinerary to be released after the inauguration.

Yari dismissed the prospects of opposition candidates, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He argued that neither could claim control of any state outside their home regions, making a national victory impossible.“Can the ADC candidate today in the southern part of the country beat his chest and say he has control of one state in the South? And I don’t think Peter Obi… can beat his chest and say he has control of one state in northern Nigeria,” he said.

Citing the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s strong northern support in 2011 that still failed to deliver the presidency, Yari stressed that regional dominance alone is not enough.

“Even if you have control of 80 per cent of the South, if you don’t have anything in the North, you cannot make it,” he noted.By contrast, he estimated that Tinubu controls more than 10 states in the South and more than 10 in the North. “

This calculation shows us that… it is not rocket science,” Yari said. The former Zamfara governor maintained that the APC would campaign on the President’s record rather than fresh promises.

“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on ground; still, the economy is moving… We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue.”Yari was appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in August 2026.
