China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the reforms are delivering tangible results that should be sustained beyond 2027.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Yu highlighted the growth in bilateral trade, which reached $18 billion in the first half of 2026.
He noted that Nigeria’s exports to China had “increased tremendously” over the past three years, reflecting stronger macroeconomic stability and renewed investor confidence.
Yu assured that China would deepen cooperation with Nigeria under the principle that Africa’s resources belong to Africa, promising high-quality investments and greater use of local human capital.
He also expressed interest in supporting initiatives in health, education, and food security. In response, the First Lady welcomed China’s endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term bid, describing it as “cheering.”
She commended China’s focus on agriculture and pledged to encourage collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. “Nigeria is transforming. And we must embrace the new Nigeria,” she said.
Nigeria and China elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024 during Tinubu’s state visit to Beijing.
Yu, who became ambassador in August 2024, said bilateral trade had surged, with Chinese imports from Nigeria up 81 percent in 2026.
