Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone in the coding and programming community would be interested in helping bring D-Day: Frontier Commander back to life on modern Android devices.

I'd really love to play this game again, but getting it to work on current Android versions seems difficult. Trying to install it through unofficial APK websites, random tutorials, or questionable emulators can also expose people to malware, fake apps, and potentially unsafe software.

My question is: Could we use modern programming tools and AI-assisted coding to rebuild, port, or recreate this game so it works safely on today's Android devices?

I'm looking for people with experience in:

  • Android app and game development.
  • Java, Kotlin, C++, Unity, or other relevant game development technologies.
  • Reverse engineering and legacy software compatibility.
  • AI-assisted programming and rebuilding older games.
  • Game preservation and recreating gameplay from scratch.

I don't expect anyone to magically recreate the entire game overnight. I'm simply wondering whether developers could work together, share ideas, and figure out the best technical approach.

If the original source code is no longer available, perhaps it would still be possible to recreate the core gameplay in a new Android project, provided we have a legitimate way to use the necessary assets and respect the original developers' rights.

The ultimate goal would be a safe, standalone version that runs on modern Android without suspicious installers, questionable emulators, or complicated workarounds.

For those of you who actually code:

  • How would you approach a project like this?
  • Which programming language or engine would you recommend?
  • Could AI coding assistants realistically speed up the development process?
  • Would anyone be interested in collaborating on a proof of concept or helping a beginner understand where to start?

I'm not a developer myself, so I'm hoping to learn from people who have the technical knowledge to assess whether this is realistic.

If you're interested, have suggestions, or know someone who might be able to help, I'd really appreciate your input.

Maybe we can find a way to make this forgotten game playable again!

Thanks! ❤️
