Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have neutralised a suspected notorious criminal, Abubakar Ango, during an operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on X on Sunday, Ango was apprehended by troops of Sector 2 OPEP in Kukawa village on 4 November.
Citing security sources, Makama stated that the suspect later confessed during interrogation to involvement in several criminal activities and agreed to lead security operatives to his gang's hideout located in a forested area.
The operation was reportedly aimed at recovering weapons and tracking down other members of the criminal network.
However, while guiding troops to the location on 6 November, Ango allegedly attempted to seize a soldier's rifle. In response, troops opened fire and neutralised the suspect.
Security sources further disclosed that follow-up operations are ongoing to arrest or eliminate other members of the gang who remain at large.
Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while security operations continue in parts of Plateau State to combat criminal activities and restore peace in affected communities.
