Tyler Perry’s latest original feature is rapidly scaling the global streaming ranks. The iconic Netflix film, Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, is setting new milestones, with viewers flocking to the drama.

The movie hit the streaming service on October 2 and is already dominating Netflix within just days of its release. Per the latest reports, it has already climbed to the No. 1 position on Netflix’s U.S. movie chart. As of writing, the film is currently ahead of The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part, The Breadwinner, UNABOMBER, among other popular titles on the list.

According to the outlet’s Netflix U.S. rankings for October 5, Doing Life is the most-watched movie on Netflix. The early responses for the movie have been mixed, though quite a few of the reviews have given it particularly high praise, per the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, the film’s early streaming success comes as Doing Life draws attention for its compelling story of second chances, redemption, and an unexpected relationship.

What is Doing Life about?

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, Doing Life tells the story of Anika, a single mother and former prison officer, who forms an unlikely connection with a reformed ex-convict, Carousel.

This comes after Carousel once saved Anika during a violent prison riot. After leaving prison, he is shown to be trying to rebuild his life while Anika is busy dealing with her own struggles. Ultimately, their relationship develops throughout the show as a series of circumstances give both characters a chance at a fresh start.

In the series, Naomi Baker stars as Anika, with Jay Reeves joining her as Carousel. The cast joining alongside them includes Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent, and Danielle Moné Truitt.

Tyler Perry’s Doing Life is currently available to stream globally on Netflix.
