Critics agree on one point: Marvel’s latest Disney+ series gives its Vision trilogy a strong finish. Early VisionQuest reviews have pushed the miniseries to an 85% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, and the first two episodes are released on Disney+ today.

VisionQuest reviews hail Marvel’s latest TV show

Reviews went live on Monday, but verified-viewer scores on the Popcornmeter have not yet posted. Anywho, praise centers on the performances and the story’s emotional pull. MovieWeb ranks the series among the best Marvel has made for television, calling it “Marvel TV at its best.” Its reviewer says the studio’s streaming output has wavered since 2021, but this show balances action with reflection on loss and identity.

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, and The Hollywood Reporter focuses on his scenes with Ruaridh Mollica, who plays the teenager Vision may know as his reincarnated son. The critic reads the series as a father and son rediscovering each other. Mollica brings wary hope to the role, while Bettany swings between comic bewilderment and genuine warmth.

James Spader earns equal attention. ComingSoon.com says his version of Ultron adds depth to a character who could have stayed a stock villain.

The same review concedes the show sometimes falls short of its emotional goals, yet still labels it “refreshingly unusual.” Other critics are just as warm. Josh Wilding of Comic Book Movie gave a fresh rating and ranked it among the “best MCU stories ever told.” Hunter Ingram of The Wrap also described it as one of Marvel’s more humane and hopeful projects.

Terry Matalas created the series, serves as showrunner, and directed episodes. The story finds Vision living in hiding, trying to work out who he is by talking with AI personas inside his programming. A bounty then forces him to flee with the teenager.

Audience scores will soon show whether viewers agree with the critics. For now, the early VisionQuest reviews point to a confident, character-driven finale.
