Stephen Curry has crossed a financial threshold no player in NBA history has reached. With the two-year, $116 million extension he agreed to with the Warriors on Friday, Curry becomes the first player to surpass $600 million in career on-court earnings, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, whose figures put the 38-year-old at roughly $652 million.
The gap is substantial. Kevin Durant sits second at about $598 million, with LeBron James third at $592 million and Kawhi Leonard fourth at $543 million. Paul George, Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell, and James Harden round out the group above $500 million.
The extension itself came in below what Curry could have commanded. He was eligible for a two-year max worth $136 million, and by signing for $116 million, he left Golden State roughly $20 million in flexibility to build around him. The deal carries an annual average value of $58 million and includes a player option for 2028-29.

The timing was deliberate. Curry was entering the final year of his contract, a $62.6 million extension signed in August 2024, and the agreement arrived just ahead of Monday’s media day, removing any lingering questions about his future before camp opens.
Not that there were many. General manager Mike Dunleavy said last month he was confident about two things regarding Curry, that he wants badly to win and that he wants to finish his career in Golden State. The organization has said publicly it intends to keep him for the duration of his career, and the new deal runs through what would be his 20th NBA season and his age-40 year.
Curry’s resume needs little introduction. He is a four-time champion, a 12-time All-Star, a two-time scoring champion, the league’s all-time leader in 3-pointers and the only unanimous MVP in NBA history. The Warriors drafted him seventh overall in 2009, and he has never played for another franchise.
Health remains the variable. Curry appeared in just 43 games last season, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in 30.9 minutes, though the knee issues that limited him are reportedly behind him entering 2026-27.
