President Donald Trump’s unusual comments praising Ohio Sen. Jon Husted’s physique sparked widespread laughter and sharp political criticism on The View. Former Trump White House director of strategic communications Alyssa Farah Griffin called her former boss’ remarks “refreshing” while questioning his focus ahead of the midterm elections.

Trump made the comments during a campaign rally in Ohio, where he described examining Husted’s body. The president said, “He’s over here, I’m over here, and I’m studying his body. I’ve never studied the body of a man before. It’s not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course, but I looked at his a–. And then I looked at his legs, and I said, his a–, it’s like a pile of muscle.”

During Friday’s Hot Topics discussion, Griffin joked about her former boss’s comments and referenced his past remarks about men’s physiques, including golf legend Arnold Palmer.

As quoted by Entertainment Weekly, the 37-year-old said, “As the saying goes, we’re all a little gay. He’s just leaning right into it.” She previously worked on Trump’s communications team before resigning and publicly opposing him.

Griffin pointed to inflation, gas prices, the war with Iran, and government corruption as key voter concerns. She questioned Trump’s priorities, saying, “It’s remarkable that 11 days out from the midterms, Donald Trump keeps having to be in deep red parts of the country” like Ohio and Texas.

Co-host Sara Haines also criticized Trump’s remarks during the discussion. She recalled his claim that audiences would applaud even when he said something foolish. Haines said, “This man doesn’t make sense. I feel like people are trying to take grandpa off the spotlight.”

Republican co-host Ana Navarro suggested Trump was distracting from rising gas prices with his remarks about Husted. She also highlighted the perceived contradiction between Trump’s comments and Republican criticism of LGBTQ+ people.

Navarro asked, “Can you imagine just for 30 seconds — 3 seconds — what Republicans would have said if Hillary Clinton would’ve said about Kamala Harris, ‘Damn, she’s got a good a–!’”
