According to early forecasts, Gauteng is set to experience an intense cold front next week, with temperatures expected to plummet drastically across the province.

After a warm to hot weekend in the northern parts of the country, a significant cold front and rain system are expected to sweep through Gauteng early in the week.

Temperatures are forecast to drop sharply on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Thursday marking the beginning of a gradual clearing and warming trend.

In Johannesburg, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 27°C on Sunday, with sunny and windy conditions. Monday will bring relatively similar conditions, with a high of 26°C and a minimum of 11°C.

The cold front is expected to hit Gauteng on Tuesday, with temperatures dropping into the low teens. There is a 30% chance of rain, with Johannesburg forecast to reach a maximum of just 14°C.

Wednesday is expected to be the coldest day of the week in the province, with Johannesburg reaching a high of only 9°C.

According to AccuWeather, temperatures will gradually improve from Thursday onwards as the cold front moves away.

Cold front to hit Gauteng by Tuesday, JHB to drop to 9°C

In Pretoria, residents can expect warm conditions until Tuesday before the cold front arrives. Rain is forecast for Wednesday, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 12°C.

The cold front is expected to move out of Gauteng from Thursday, with temperatures gradually recovering and some areas potentially reaching 20°C by Saturday.
