Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt says the best programmers no longer write code. Speaking at Harvard's John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, Schmidt described an engineer who writes specifications and evaluation criteria, lets AI run overnight, and wakes up to finished work. He argued AI will make top engineers more valuable, automate core business operations like billing and logistics, and predicted artificial general intelligence (AGI) could arrive as early as 2029.
