When Casino Royale came out we were all skeptical. This new guy Daniel Craig looked nothing like the James Bond we knew and we were just coming off a very successful Pierce Brosnan era who fit the role perfectly and rejuvenated the franchise.
But yeah from that opening black and white scene where he’s just a ruthless badass, the very cool gunshot transition to the classic Bond intro made us all go “hm, interesting”.
After a generally awesome movie to that point, the scene that brought it home was when Bond gets poisoned at the card table and only him and the villain know it, he subtly leaves the table in a panic, stumbles back to his car and literally re-starts his own heart at the final moment, and proceeds to go back to the card table and a shocked villain like “sorry about that, that last hand…nearly killed me.”
The entire audience erupted in laughter and applause and we were basically collectively like “this is our fuckin’ Bond now”, it felt like an official endorsement of Daniel Craig so yeah it was really cool to experience that in real time with a theater full of Bond fans.
