Who is Uma Kashvi, 15-year-old Indian all-rounder who became the youngest-ever WPL signing?

At 15 years and 202 days, Kashvi was signed by DC for her base price at the WPL mini-auction on Wednesday, October 28. Born on April 9, 2011, a week after the India men’s team won the ODI World Cup under MS Dhoni, Kashvi broke Deeya Yadav’s record, who was also signed by the Capitals in last year’s auction at the age of 16.

According to Deccan Herald, Kashvi began her cricketing journey at the age of seven at a cricket academy close to her residence. She hasn’t looked back since.

In the BCCI Women’s U15 One-Day Trophy last season, she amassed 516 runs in just six innings at a staggering average of 172 and a strike rate of 166, with three centuries, 83 fours and 12 sixes, while leading Karnataka.

Her impressive showings earned her a place in India’s U19 squad for the Sri Lanka tour in June-July. Kashvi played two ODIs and three T20Is against Sri Lanka, picking up two and four wickets, respectively, with her off-spin bowling.

The 15-year-old then showcased her all-round skills in the Women’s U19 T20 Trophy for Karnataka, scoring 125 runs and picking up 10 wickets in the tournament. Her best knock came against Manipur when she smashed an unbeaten 60 off 34, with seven fours and two sixes. A couple of days later, she delivered her best performance with the ball, accounting for four wickets against Mumbai.

Besides leading the Karnataka in the BCCI U15 Women’s One-Day trophy, she also captained the Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharani T20 League 2025.

Delhi Capitals head coach Jonathan Batty was also impressed by Kashvi's performances and credited the franchise’s scouts for identifying her talents early.

“We talk about looking for sort of upcoming talent,” he said. “Uma Kashvi, a highly regarded young Indian player. Really bright prospect for the future. Our scouts identified her quite a long time ago. So yeah, a really bright star looking at the future.”
