Avengers: Doomsday just proved it doesn’t need IMAX to dominate the premium screen battle. Disney revealed how one bold theatrical workaround is already reshaping the film’s entire presale strategy months before release.

Infinity Vision becomes a major part of Avengers: Doomsday’s theatrical rollout

Disney CFO Hugh Johnston revealed Avengers: Doomsday’s domestic presales have crossed $50 million, as reported by Variety. Johnston called the figure “unprecedented” for a film still over three months from its December 18 release. The fifth Avengers crossover brings together heroes from across the MCU against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Johnston disclosed the figures at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on Wednesday. Infinity Vision, Disney’s premium large format certification, accounts for over 70% of those advance tickets.

Disney developed Infinity Vision after Doomsday lost IMAX screens to Dune: Part Three’s exclusive deal. The studio unveiled the certification at CinemaCon in April to direct fans toward premium formats. Certified theaters must meet technical standards including large screens, laser projection, and premium audio. At launch, Disney identified over 75 certified screens domestically and 300 internationally.

More than 7,500 exhibitor applications followed the program’s announcement. Avengers: Endgame Encore’s September 25 re-release will serve as Infinity Vision’s theatrical debut. Doomsday will then mark the certification’s first original release on December 18.

Johnston also spotlighted Marvel’s surging Disney+ numbers during the conference. Fans watched over 420 million hours of Marvel content in August, setting a new monthly record. Doomsday anticipation alone drove an additional 200 million hours above typical viewing levels.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day added further momentum to the Marvel brand this summer. That film crossed $2 billion worldwide, making it Sony’s highest-grossing release in history. Johnston pointed to Disney’s broader slate beyond Doomsday, referencing Incredibles and Frozen sequels. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027, offering Infinity Vision another major release window.
