Finding and maintaining a healthy relationship can often feel like you've struck gold, since there are plenty of fish in the sea that are eager to prove that to you.
Everyone remembers the first time they realized the saying 'There are plenty of fish in the sea' is actually complete nonsense. Not because there aren't a lot of fish in the sea, but because finding one that is truly good and fitting for you is more like finding a needle in a haystack than simply fishing for a random fish.
The first time I realized that all the fish I have in my sea are terrible options was after I had to put an end to four different relationships in the span of six months. Every breakup had a valid reason, and I can assure you it had nothing to do with me. These men were either too immature, refused to be honest with me, or simply had a terrible personality. It felt like no matter where I looked, or where I fished, if you will, I always ended up throwing the fist back to sea.
When I met my now-husband, it truly felt like striking gold, and I will never take his good heart or kind nature for granted, especially not after reading stories like the one below.
