A woman was seriously injured in a stabbing in North York late Sunday afternoon.

Toronto Police said cops were called just after 4 p.m. to the Bathurst St.-Finch Ave. W. area, where they found a woman with serious, life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to a local hospital.

Cops said there was no threat to public safety and that there were no outstanding suspects.

CP24 reported that there appeared to be a body under a tarp in a parking lot in the area.

It also reported that the victim and the suspect were known to each other, citing a police spokesperson.

Senior, OPP officer injured during wellness check

The Special Investigations Unit said it is investigating an incident in Orillia Friday afternoon after a man was injured during his “apprehension” by police.

The province’s police watchdog said the incident happened at around 1 p.m. after Ontario Provincial Police officers went to a home on West St. N. for a wellness check involving the man.

The 65-year-old had barricaded himself in the home, the SIU said in a news release Saturday.

“After a time, officers attempted to apprehend the man, there was an interaction, and an officer discharged a less-lethal weapon (Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield) at him,” the SIU said.

The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital where he was treated for a serious, non-life-threatening injury, while an officer who was also injured was taken to a hospital for treatment and released, the SIU said.

The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online through its website.
