This 1965 Ford Mustang is one of 60 similar coupes reportedly built for use at the New York World’s Fair in April 1965, where the sales success of the Mustang was celebrated with the launch of the GT Equipment Group and Décor Interior. The car was then relocated to the West Coast and sold through Cutter Ford in Hermosa Beach. It was restored by a previous owner between 2016 and 2017 and has been modified with reproduction 14″ styled-steel wheels, Borgeson power steering, a dual-circuit master cylinder, and Koni dampers, and it is further equipped with a push-button radio, Rally Pac instruments, and a console. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2026, this Mustang is now offered at no reserve in Texas with a binder of historical documentation and restoration records, and a clean California title.
Records indicate that Ford presented a group of identical 1965 coupes finished in Wimbledon White and equipped with the GT Equipment Group and Décor Interiors for use to celebrate the first year of Mustang sales success.
This example is claimed to be one of that batch and was then delivered in May 1965 to Cutter Ford in Hermosa Beach. Correspondence with previous owners noted that the car had been involved in an accident that affected the left-rear quarter, and restoration work was undertaken c. 2016-2017 that involved refinishing the Wimbledon White exterior.
The 14″ styled-steel wheels were sourced from Coker Tire c.2017, and the car was modified with Borgeson power steering, a dual-circuit master cylinder, Scott Drake springs and polyurethane bushings, and Koni dampers out back.
The luxury interior features Light Blue and White Crinkle vinyl with Pony-motif backrests, woodgrain trim, an AM radio, and a console. The interior was redone with a mix of reproduction parts during the restoration, with records displayed in the gallery.
Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. Refurbished Rally Pac instruments are mounted on the column. The five-digit odometer shows 32k miles.
The A-code 289ci V8 was factory rated at 225 horsepower. The seller states that the engine was refurbished during the 2016–2017 restoration.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement rebuilt C-4 three-speed automatic transmission that was installed in 2016. The fuel tank and exhaust are also newer components.
