Zooey Deschanel has a memorable aesthetic — and that’s a good thing. From her signature bangs to her vintage-inspired wardrobe and super-cute ballet flats, the actor has long cultivated a personal style that feels distinctly her own. Whether as Jess on “New Girl” or just herself, the queen of twee is so refreshingly loyal to her personal style that the trends she loves have gone around and come back into fashion again.

Now, the millennial icon who screams holiday spirit (“Elf,” anyone?) has teamed up with another millennial icon, Bath & Body Works, for a holiday campaign featuring the new cozy season-ready products, including fine fragrance mist, body cream, lotion, hand soap, candles and more.

We caught up with Deschanel to discuss her current beauty favorites, the body products she’s loving, her secondhand shopping philosophy and whether she managed to keep any of Jess Day’s memorable wardrobe for herself.

What’s a beauty item you’re obsessed with right now?

I like to keep it simple. I am loving the Sweed Lip Liners. I get into a relationship with a lip pencil. It’s like I’m married to it for years, [and] this one stole my heart this year.

What’s a body product you’re loving?

This is really fun [from Bath & Body Works]. It’s a shapable soap, and this is my favorite overall scent. This is Moonlit Goddess, which we all are, right? We’re all moonlit goddesses. And it smells really beautiful. It’s got this nice subtle pear lavender scent. I love the moisturizing body wash because it’s wintertime and my skin gets dry.

What’s a fashion item you’re eyeing right now?

I actually buy a lot of stuff secondhand. That’s my favorite way to shop. I won’t ever buy something full price. I always look for secondhand because it’s better for the environment. And also, I just like the hunt for a good deal. I love vintage clothes, so I’m always looking for vintage pieces. Some designers I love [are] Courrèges [and] Saint Laurent. A lot of those pieces still look, even from the ’60s, ’70s, they look amazing still. The one thing I like to buy new is shoes because I don’t want to wear someone else’s shoes, but pretty much everything else I buy secondhand.

Where do you get your iconic ballet flats?

I’m wearing Jimmy Choos right now and I love them. I love Repetto.

Where do you go for more affordable pieces?

I think everywhere. When I was a teenager, my parents gave me an allowance that was supposed to cover everything, like music, movies, plus my clothes. And I used to shop at [the] Salvation Army and I put together really cute outfits. I just don’t think that you need to spend a lot of money to be a fashionista.

What’s a fall fashion must-have you swear by?
I love my snowflake sweaters. I love a fair isle situation. I know those were very big last year. There’s also a lot you can buy secondhand that are super cute. One thing is, I don’t like itchy, so I look for cotton sweaters or cashmere.

Did you keep anything from [your “New Girl” character] Jess’ closet and do you still wear anything?

I wasn’t really allowed to… I knew stuff would sell out after I wore it on the show, so I would buy it before the show aired. Jess had a lot of cute stuff, a lot of vintage stuff, but also a lot of J. Crew and Kate Spade and a lot of things [from] brands that are still great and still around.
